Why Grunt faded
Grunt faded because streaming pipelines and bundler-native workflows made its plugin graph feel like XML config in disguise. It won the "we need automation" moment then lost the "this is too slow" follow-up. Archaeology dig: thousands of Gruntfiles still run nightly builds somewhere.
